HOW TO CROCHET A GIRL'S SUMMER BAG - ZIG ZAG, BRAIDED PUFF STITCH - TUTORIAL

You will need:
Crochet yarn, I used Red Heard No 4, black
scissors
crochet hook 4 mm
yarn needle

Stitches: dc - double crochet
hdc - half double crochet
Dec - decrease
sl st - slip stitch

Puff stitch pattern are done in multiple of 3, plus your turning chain.

For this project I did the following:

Start with a chain of 36 plus 4, dc in 4th ch from hook; puff stitch in the 3rd of the beginning ch 4, sk 2 ch,  dc in next st, puff stitch in the second of the 2 stitches skipped (watch video for guidance).  Repeat for the entire length of chain.  Make as many rows as you desire.  Fold and sew the bottom and 1 side, (I used sc to stitch the seams).

Flap

Attach your yarn in the dc after the 3rd puff stitch from the right side, (there are 9 puff stitches in each row of the bag). You should also have 3 puff stitches on the left side, having the flap centered over 3 puff stitches as well. The flap will be worked over 3 puff stitches.

Row 1: work 10 dc across, ch 3 turn
Rows 2 and 3, repeat row 1, ch 3 turn
Row 4: Dec  2 dctog, 1 dc in next 2 dc; 2 dctog, 1 dc in next 2 dc, 2 last dctog; ch 3 turn.
Row 5: Dec  2 dctog, 1 dc in next dc, 2 dctog, 1 dc in next dc, 2 last dctog, ch 3 turn.
Row 6: Dec 2 dctog, 1 dc in next dc, 2 last dctog, chain 5 (for button hole) sk 1 dc and sl st in last dc. Fasten off.
Edging for Flap
Join yarn to bottom corner of the flap, in each dc along the side, work 1sc, 2 hdc, 1 sc, and repeat until your reach the chain 5 for the button hole; in the ch 5 space work 10 sc; and work down the side as you did the other side. fasten off. Attach the yarn again to the corner of the flap and work 1 sc all around the  top edge of the bag to make it even with the edging on the flap.  Watch video for guidance.
