PINEAPPLE BASKET

Crochet cotton No. 20 (2o g) 3 balls.

Ribbon: 2.5 cm (1 in wide).

Crochet Hook: 1.5 (No. 3)

NOTE THAT THIS PATTERN IS A UK ONE.

1 Tr – in US terns it should be 1 dc;  1 dbl tr – should be 1 tr; 1 dc should be 1 sc.

I USED ELMERS GLUE ALL TO STIFFEN MY PROJECT, MIX A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER TO GLUE AND MAKE SURE ITS THICK ENOUGH TO STIFFLY HOLD THE BASKET INTO SHAPE.

BASE

Commence with 10 ch, join with a ss to form a ring.

1^st Row: 3 ch, 23 tr into ring, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

2^nd  to 4^th Row: 3 ch, 1 tr into each tr increasing 12 tr in each row, 1 ss into 3^rd of  3 ch. (60 tr in last row).

5^th Row: 3 ch, 1 tr into same place as last ss, *3 ch, miss 2 tr, 2 tr into next tr, repeat from *ending with 3 ch, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch. (20 groups of 2 tr).

6^th Row: Ss into next tr and into sp, 3 ch, into same sp work 1 tr 2 ch and 2 tr, * 1 ch, into next sp work 2 tr 2 ch and 2 tr (shell made); repeat from *ending with 1 ch, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

7^th Row: Ss into next tr and into sp, 3 ch, into same sp work 1 tr 2 ch and 2 tr, * 1 ch, miss 1 ch sp, shell into sp of next shell; repeat from * ending with 1 ch, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

8^th Row: Ss to sp of shell, 1 dc into same sp, * 5 ch, 1 dc into sp of next shell; repeat from *ending with 2 ch, 1 tr into first dc.

9^th to 19^th Row: *5 ch, 1 dc into next loop; repeat from *ending with 2 ch, 1 tr into next tr, (12 rows of loops).

20^th Row: * 5ch, 1 dc into next loop; repeat from ending with 5 ch, 1 ss into tr of previous row.

21^st Row: 1 ss into each of next 2 ch and into loop, 3 ch into same loop work 1 tr 2 ch and 2 tr, shell into next loop, repeat from ending with 1 ch, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch. (20 shells).

22^nd to 30^th Row: As 7^th row, thus making shell over shell, (10 rows of shells).

31^st to 34^th Row: Work shell over shell as before, having 1 ch more between shells on each row, (5 ch on last row).

35^th Row: *Shell over shell, 4 ch, 12 dbl tr into sp of next shell (base of pineapple), 4 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

36^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, 1 dbl tr into each dbl tr with 1 ch between dbl tr, 3 ch repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

37^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, miss 4 ch sp, 1 dc into 1 ch sp, (5 ch, 1 dc into next 1 ch sp) 10 times, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

38^th Row: Ss to sp of shell, 3 ch, into same sp work 1 tr 2ch 2 tr 2 ch and 2 tr, 3 ch, 1 dc into next 5 ch loop, work 9 loops of 5 ch, 3 ch into sp of next shell work (2 tr, 2 ch) twice and 2 tr; repeat from omitting (2 tr, 2 ch) twice and 2 tr at end of last repeat, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

39^th Row: Ss to sp of shell, 3 ch and complete a shell into same sp, 2 ch, shell into next 2 ch sp, 3 ch, 1 dc into next 5 ch loop, work 8 loops of 5 ch, 3 ch, shell into next 2 ch sp; repeat from omitting shell at end of last repeat, 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

40^th Row: Shell over shell, shell into next  2 ch sp, shell over next shell, 3 ch, work 5 ch loops across pineapple as before, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

41^st Row: Shell over shell, (1 ch, shell over next shell) twice, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

42^nd Row: As last row, working 3 ch between shells instead of 1 ch.

43^rd Row: Shell over shell,  4 ch, into sp of next shell work 2 tr 5 ch and 2 tr, 4 ch, shell over shell, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

44^th Row: Shell over shell, 4 ch, 14 dbl tr into next sp of next shell (base of 2^nd row of pineapples,  4 ch, shell over shell, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

45^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, 1 dbl tr in each dbl tr with 1 ch between dbl tr, 3 ch, shell over shell, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

46^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, 1 dc into next 1 ch sp, (5 ch, 1 dc into next 1 ch sp) 12 times, 3 ch, shell over shell, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

47^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, work 5 ch loops across pineapple, 3 ch, shell over shell, 5 ch, 1 dc into 5 ch loop, 5 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

48^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, work 5 ch loops across pineapple, 3 ch, shell over shell, 9 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

49^th Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, work across pineapple, 3 ch, shell over shell, 6 ch, 1 dc into next sp, 6 ch; repeat from ending with 1 ss into 3^rd of 3 ch.

50^th Row: As 48^th row, making 11 ch instead of 9 ch.

51^st Row:  As 49^th row, making 8 ch instead of 6 ch.

52^nd Row: As 48^th row, making 17 ch, instead of 9 ch.

53^rd Row: As 49^th row, making 10 ch instead of 6 ch.

Make points by working back and forth over each pineapple individually as follows:

1^st Row: Shell over shell, work across pineapple, shell over shell, 5 ch, turn.

Repeat this row until only 1 loop remains at top of pineapple,  5 ch , turn.

Last Row: Shell over shell, 4 ch, 1 dc into loop, 4 ch, 2 tr into next shell, 1 ch, 1 ss into 2 ch sp of last shell, 1 ch, 2 tr where last 2 tr were made.

Fasten off.

Attach thread to sp of first shell of next pineapple and complete point in same manner. Continue thus until all points have been completed.

HANDLE

Commence with 14 ch.

1^st Row: Shell into 6^th ch from hook, 5 ch, miss 7 ch, shell into next ch, 5 ch, turn.

2^nd Row: Shell over shell, 5 ch, shell into sp of next shell, 5 ch, turn.

3^rd Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, 1 dc over the 2 chs below, 3 ch, shell over shell, 5 ch, turn.

4^th and 5^th Rows: As 2^nd row.

Repeat the 3^rd to 5^th row alternately until the piece measures 25 in, ending with the 4^th row and omitting turning ch at end of row. Fasten off.

 Starch stiffly and pull into shape and leave to dry. Starch handle and leave flat to dry. If desired, run a wire through handle before sewing to basket. Lace ribbon through handle.

FLOWER

Foundation

With shaded red, commence with 2 ch.

1^st Row: 8 dc into 2^nd ch from hook.

2^nd Row: 2 dc into each dc.

Continue working rows of dc, increasing sufficiently to keep work flat (to increase- work a dc into same place) until work measures 2.5 cm. (1 in). Fasten off.

Large Petal (make 16)

Commence with 21 ch.

1^st Row: 1 dc into 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 18 ch, 5 dc into next ch (tip), now working along opposite side of ch work 1 dc into each of next 19 ch, 1 ch, turn.

2^nd Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc to centre dc at tip, 3 dc into centre dc, 1 dc into each dc, 1 ch, turn.

3^rd Row: As 2^nd row.

4^th Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc to centre dc at tip, into next dc work 1 dc 1 hlf tr and 1 dc, 1 dc into each dc. Fasten off.

Small Petal

Commence with 15 ch.

1^st Row: 1 dc into 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 12 ch, 5 dc into next ch (tip), now working along opposite side of ch, work 1 dc into each of next 13 ch, 1 ch, turn.

2^nd to 4^th Row: As 2^nd to 4^th row of large petal. Fasten off.

CENTER

Commence with 30 ch.

1^st Row: 1 dc into 2^nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 28 ch, 2 ch. Turn.

2^nd Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each of next 3 dc, miss next dc, 1 dc into each of next 4 dc; repeat from ending with 2 ch, turn.

3^rd Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc, 2 ch, turn.

4^th Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, miss next dc, 1 dc into each of next 3 dc, repeat from working last dc into top of turning ch, 2 ch, turn

5^th Row: As 3^rd row.

6^th Row:  Miss first dc, 1 dc into next dc, miss next dc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc; repeat from working last dc into top of turning ch, 2 ch, turn.

7^th Row: As 3^rd row.

8^th Row: Miss first dc, (1 dc into each of next 2 dc, miss next dc) 3 times, 1 dc into top of turning ch, 2 ch, turn.

9^th Row: As 3^rd row.

10^th Row: Miss first dc, leaving the last loop of each on hook, work 1 dc into each dc, thread over and  draw through all loops on hook. Fasten off.

TO MAKE UP

Fold sides of petals towards centre and sew up side edges for 6 mm. (1/4 in) at base.  Sew petals to foundation, 8 large petals on lower row, 8 large petals on next row and 8 small petals on top row.  Sew side edges of centre together. Stuff with cotton wool and sew to centre of flower. Starch slightly and leave to dry, press lightly. Sew to side of basket.
