HOW TO CROCHET A CLUTCH PURSE - FT/THE SUZETTE STITCH - DIY

HOW TO CROCHET A CLUTCH PURSE USING THE SUZETTE STITCH

PLEASE REFER TO THE VIDEO FOR GUIDANCE WHERE NECESSARY.

NOTE: When crocheting using the Suzette stitch, always start  and finish with a sc (single crochet). For all subsequent rows, always crochet in all the sc, on that row, skipping all the dc on that row.

For this project you will need:
Crochet Hook ( I used 4:00 mm)
scissors
yarn of your choice ( I used Lyon Brand No. 5 chunky, colour: Cream/Black
yarn needle
a button

Instructions:

Make a chain of 50 plus 2.

Row 1.  Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, dc in the same sc, sk 1 st, sc and dc in the next st, sk 1 st, sc and dc in the next st. Repeat to the last st, in the last stitch make a sc, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2.  sc and dc in the first sc, sk the next dc, sc and dc in the next sc, repeat to the last st, in the last stitch make a sc, ch 1 and turn.

Repeat Row 2 until you have reached the desired length of your project.  I made 33 rows.

To form the clutch, fold your work (see video for guidance) count 10 stitches down from the top on either side of your work (this will be the flap).  Sew up both sides of the clutch.

Edging for the flap

Attach your yarn at the bottom edge of the flap, make sc evenly up the 10 stitches, when you reach the corners, put 3 sc in that st,  and then 34 sc evenly spaced across, then 3 sc in corner and down the last 10 stitches (Note, you should have 34 sc across the flap. cut your yarn. (watch video for guidance).

Row 1. Attach your yarn in the second of the 3 sc on the corner at the right side. Ch 3, sk 2 sts, 5dc in the next st; ch 5, sk 2 sts, sc in next st, ch 5, sk 2 sts,  5 dc in next st, ch 5, sk 2 sts, sc in the next st, ch 5, sk 2 sts, 5 dc in the next st, repeat to last st, (you should end with 5 dc, turn your work

Row 2.  ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1, 3 more times, ch 3, sc in next sp, ch 3, sc in next space,  ch 3, dc in next dc,  ch 1, dc in next dc, ch 1,3 more times, repeat to end, ending with your last dc of 5 dc group. Turn your work.

Row 3. (count as first dc, ch 3, sl st in bottom of that ch 3, (picot made), dc in next dc, ch 3, sl st in bottom of that ch 3, another picot made.  repeat for other 3 dc in that 5 dc group; ch 5, sk the next sp, sc in the next sp, ch 5, dc in next dc, ch 3, sl st in the bottom of that ch 3, picot made, repeat for the other 4 dc in that 5 dc group, repeat to end, fasten off.

Find the center of your work and sew on your button.

Strap for clutch:

Attach your yarn in the left hand corner below the flap.  Make ch 3 and dc in each of next 2 dc (3 dc in all); turn your work, now work 1 dc in each of those 3 dc.  Repeat for the desired length you need for your strap.  Get your yarn needle and attach the other end to the beginning where you attached the yarn.

NOTE: You can make your strap or straps however you  wish.
