HOW TO CROCHET A BABY HAT - FT. THE BEAD STITCH - TUTORIAL

For the project you will need:

crochet hook:  I used 4:00 mm
crochet yarn: I used Bernat Baby Sport
yarn needle
scissors

Abbreviations:

ch - chain
sc - single crochet
sts - stitches
st - stitch
dc - double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
sk - skip
dec 2 sc tog - decrease 2 single crochet together
crab stitch - make a dc, work 3 dc around that dc post, holding all loops on hook (you should have 7 loops on hook) yarn over and pull through all loops.  See video for guidance.

This hat should fit 0-6 month old baby

Starting from band of hat:

Row 1: Ch 8, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn.
Row 2: working in back looks of each ch, make a sc in each st to end, ch 1, turn.
Rows 3 - 47: repeat Row 2 until your band is the length you require to fit the baby's head.  (I did 50 rows). Join both ends together.

Row 48:  ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st all around, sl st in beginning sc. (you should have 50 sc if you use this pattern).

Row 49: ch 3, dc in next sc, work bead stitch around the post of the dc just made (see video), sk next sc, dc in next sc, work bead stitch around the dc post, repeat 48 more times, end with sl st to top of beginning ch 3.

Rows 50-52: repeat Row 49

Row 51: ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st all around, end with sl st to beginning sc.

Row 52:  ch 1, sc 2 tog, sc in next sc, sc 2 tog, repeat, (you should have 2 sts left at end), sc in each of the last 2 sts, end with sl st in beginning sc.

Row 53: ch 1, sc 2 tog, sc in each of next 2 sts, sc 2 tog, repeat (you should have 3 sts left at end) sc in each of last 3 sts, end with sl st in beginning sc.

Row 54: ch 1, sc in each st all around, ending with sl st in beginning sc.

Row 55: repeat Row 52.

Row 56: ch 1, sc 2 tog, repeat all around ending with sl st to beginning sc.

Row 57: repeat Row 56, (you should have 4 sc in total at the end of this round).  Leave a length of yarn, use your yarn needle to close up that small hole. Tie in all loose ends.

I hope you find this pattern helpful.
