I USED
ELMERS GLUE ALL TO STIFFEN MY PROJECT, MIX A SMALL AMOUNT OF WATER TO GLUE AND
MAKE SURE ITS THICK ENOUGH TO STIFFLY HOLD THE BASKET INTO SHAPE.
BASE
Commence
with 10 ch, join with a ss to form a ring.
1st
Row: 3 ch, 23 tr into ring, 1 ss into 3rd of 3 ch.
2nd to 4th Row: 3 ch, 1 tr into each
tr increasing 12 tr in each row, 1 ss into 3rd of 3 ch. (60 tr in last row).
5th
Row: 3 ch, 1 tr into same place as last ss, *3 ch, miss 2 tr, 2 tr into next
tr, repeat from *ending with 3 ch, 1 ss into 3rd of 3 ch. (20 groups
of 2 tr).
6th
Row: Ss into next tr and into sp, 3 ch, into same sp work 1 tr 2 ch and 2 tr, *
1 ch, into next sp work 2 tr 2 ch and 2 tr (shell made); repeat from *ending

Make points
by working back and forth over each pineapple individually as follows:
1st
Row: Shell over shell, work across pineapple, shell over shell, 5 ch, turn.
Repeat this
row until only 1 loop remains at top of pineapple, 5 ch , turn.
Last Row:
Shell over shell, 4 ch, 1 dc into loop, 4 ch, 2 tr into next shell, 1 ch, 1 ss
into 2 ch sp of last shell, 1 ch, 2 tr where last 2 tr were made.
Fasten off.
Attach
thread to sp of first shell of next pineapple and complete point in same
manner. Continue thus until all points have been completed.
HANDLE
Commence
with 14 ch.
1st
Row: Shell into 6th ch from hook, 5 ch, miss 7 ch, shell into next
ch, 5 ch, turn.
2nd
Row: Shell over shell, 5 ch, shell into sp of next shell, 5 ch, turn.
3rd
Row: Shell over shell, 3 ch, 1 dc over the 2 chs below, 3 ch, shell over shell,
5 ch, turn.
4th
and 5th Rows: As 2nd row.
Repeat the 3rd
to 5th row alternately until the piece measures 25 in, ending with
the 4th row and omitting turning ch at end of row. Fasten off.
Starch stiffly and pull into shape and leave
to dry. Starch handle and leave flat to dry. If desired, run a wire through
handle before sewing to basket. Lace ribbon through handle.
FLOWER
Foundation
With shaded
red, commence with 2 ch.
1st
Row: 8 dc into 2nd ch from hook.
2nd
Row: 2 dc into each dc.
Continue
working rows of dc, increasing sufficiently to keep work flat (to increase-
work a dc into same place) until work measures 2.5 cm. (1 in). Fasten off.
Large Petal
(make 16)
Commence
with 21 ch.
1st
Row: 1 dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 18 ch, 5 dc
into next ch (tip), now working along opposite side of ch work 1 dc into each
of next 19 ch, 1 ch, turn.
2nd
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc to centre dc at tip, 3 dc into centre dc,
1 dc into each dc, 1 ch, turn.
3rd
Row: As 2nd row.
4th
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc to centre dc at tip, into next dc work 1
dc 1 hlf tr and 1 dc, 1 dc into each dc. Fasten off.
Small Petal
Commence
with 15 ch.
1st
Row: 1 dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 12 ch, 5 dc
into next ch (tip), now working along opposite side of ch, work 1 dc into each
of next 13 ch, 1 ch, turn.
2nd
to 4th Row: As 2nd to 4th row of large petal.
Fasten off.
CENTER
Commence
with 30 ch.
1st
Row: 1 dc into 2nd ch from hook, 1 dc into each of next 28 ch, 2 ch.
Turn.
2nd
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each of next 3 dc, miss next dc, 1 dc into each
of next 4 dc; repeat from ending with 2 ch, turn.
3rd
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each dc, 2 ch, turn.
4th
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc, miss next dc, 1 dc into each
of next 3 dc, repeat from working last dc into top of turning ch, 2 ch, turn
5th
Row: As 3rd row.
6th
Row: Miss first dc, 1 dc into next dc,
miss next dc, 1 dc into each of next 2 dc; repeat from working last dc into top
of turning ch, 2 ch, turn.

Row: Miss first dc, (1 dc into each of next 2 dc, miss next dc) 3 times, 1 dc

Row: Miss first dc, leaving the last loop of each on hook, work 1 dc into each
dc, thread over and draw through all
loops on hook. Fasten off.
TO MAKE UP
Fold sides
of petals towards centre and sew up side edges for 6 mm. (1/4 in) at base. Sew petals to foundation, 8 large petals on
lower row, 8 large petals on next row and 8 small petals on top row. Sew side edges of centre together. Stuff with
cotton wool and sew to centre of flower. Starch slightly and leave to dry,
press lightly. Sew to side of basket.
