HOW TO CROCHET A BABY BLANKET - FT. THE BASKET WEAVE STITCH - DIY - TUTORIAL
Things you will need:
I used crochet hook 5:00 mm
Yarn: Your choice, I used a number 4 Red Heart
Yarn Needle
Scissors
ABBREVIATIONS:
ch - chain
dc - double crochet
sc - single crochet
fpdc - front post double crochet
bpdc - back post double crochet
sl st - slip stitch
beg - beginning
BLANKET MEASUREMENT: Approx 30"x30"
Multiples of 8,
Always end your project with the odd row which is Row 5.
THE PATTERN CONSISTS OF ROWS 2 TO 5. REPEAT THOSE ROWS FOR AS LONG AS YOU WOULD LIKE YOUR BLANKET TO BE.
Row 1: Ch 96, dc in 4th ch from hook, 1 dc in each st to end of the ch strip. ch 3 and turn
Row 2: 1 fpdc around each of the next 4 dc, 1 bpdc around each of the next 4 dc, repeat ending with a dc in the top of the beginning ch 3, ch 3 turn
Row 3: make 1 bpdc around each of the next 4 fpdc on previous row, 1 fpdc around each of the next 4 fpdc, 1 bpdc around each of the next fpdc from previous row, repeat ending with 1 dc in top of beg ch 3, ch 3 and turn
Row 4: repeat Row 2
Row 5: This will be the odd row: 1 bpdc around each of the next 4 fpdc, 1 fpdc around each of the next 4 bpdc, 1 bpdc around each of the next 4 fpdc, (continue alternating, this would give the outline of the basket weave) repeat ending with a dc in the top of the beg. ch 3, ch 3 turn,
Row 6 and UNWARDS repeat Rows 2 to 5 FOR AS LONG AS YOU WOLD LIKE YOUR BLANKET TO BE. (I REPEATED ROWS 2 TO 5 Fifteen (15) times for an approximate measurement of 30" x 30" ) Then fasten off.
EDGING:
Row 1:Working in sc, Join your new colour anywhere except in any of the corners, ch 1 and sc in same place, 1 sc in each st to the corner stitch, in the corner st, put 3 sc in that st, 1 sc in ea st to next corner, 3 sc in corner st, repeat ending with a sl st in 1st sc. (I joined in the middle to the 1st of the one of the 4 dc groups).
Rows 2 to 6: Repeat Row 1. (WATCH VIDEO FOR GUIDANCE).
